Community Table, formerly known as CLAS Time, begins Sept. 6

Wednesday, September 06, 2017

Students share conversation over free foodLAWRENCE — The Office of Diversity & Equity, in conjunction with all academic units and KU Libraries, will launch the first Community Table at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Anschutz Library.

The Community Table, previously known as CLAS Time, offers students, faculty and staff a space to meet others from across campus while pausing for lunch. The goal is to remove barriers and to develop new friendships and understanding. Community Table will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month, except in January, in Anschutz Library. All are welcome with a current KU ID. This year the events are catered by Ramen Bowls. Food is available while supplies last.

Students gave the Community Table predecessor high marks during the last academic year.

“CLAS time was a great place to meet people from different academic and cultural backgrounds,” said En Ning Leow, a senior in psychology from Malaysia. “I mean, what's a better way to bring people together other than food?”

The event concept originally began through the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as CLAS Time during the spring 2017 semester. The lunch sessions proved very popular, and now all academic units are co-sponsors of the program.
