Kansas City black history group invites public to programs exploring history of protests - Topeka Capital-Journal

The Greater Kansas City Black History Study Group is inviting the public to two programs next week exploring the history of protests, according to a news release.

The programs will feature films and community discussions related to contemporary issues and the anniversary of a noteworthy historic protest.

On Tuesday, designated as “Rosa Parks Day” by Congress and also marking the 60th anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott challenging segregation in the South, the documentary “Eyes on the Prize: Awakenings” will be screened at 6p.m. at the National Archives at Kansas City, 400 W. Pershing Road in Kansas City, Mo. The film chronicles the bus boycott and other early events of the Civil Rights Movement.

After the film, a discussion will be led by University of Kansas professors Clarence Lang and Madison Lacy.
