Research and practice treatments that empower others.

The M.A. degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Kansas helps you obtain knowledge to enhance the lives of clients in your community. Your study and research will put you on a path toward the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s certification after a clinical fellowship year. This clinical fellowship will allow you to put skills you have learned into practice by adapting to the cues and moods of clients, responding quickly to clinical situations, and confidently and sensitively conversing with clients and their families. Upon completion of your clinical fellowship year, you are eligible for a certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology.

This master’s degree is an intercampus program between the KU Medical Center in Kansas City and the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing at KU’s Lawrence campus. A combination of graduate study and hands-on research — totaling at least 50 credit hours — prepares you in the practice of clinical reasoning to observe, evaluate, and treat clients’ needs.

The renowned faculty of the KU Department of Speech-Language-Hearing and the KUMC Department of Hearing and Speech will be your instructors, mentors, and collaborators. As a student, you will have access to research facilities, computer labs, scholarly publication and literary collections, and other campus-based resources and technology services.
