52 KU-affiliated scientists recognized for Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics
Fifty-two physicists affiliated with the University of Kansas — both currently and formerly — are on the teams that recently were awarded the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for their papers analyzing data from CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. The prize recognizes outstanding research papers published between 2015-2024.

KU chemistry professor receives NSF CAREER Award for carbon dioxide research
Manar Shoshani, assistant professor of chemistry at KU, received a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation totaling more than $769,000 to further his research on converting carbon dioxide selectively so it can be used to develop valuable products for the energy sector and agrichemical and pharmaceutical industries, among other areas.

Report reveals high levels of added sugar in US infant formula despite medical recommendations
A study published today from the University of Kansas in the Journal of Food Composition and Analysis shows most infant formulas on the U.S. market contain primarily added sugars rather than the healthier, naturally occurring lactose found in cow-milk base that would be best for babies because it’s closest to human breast milk.

US businesses reluctant to take political action despite tariff costs, study finds
In a new study, Jack Zhang, assistant professor of political science at the University of Kansas, presented business managers with information about the input costs of new tariffs to their bottom line and invited them to take political action to express support or opposition to these tariffs. The findings suggest this information did not significantly increase managers’ propensity to take any political or social action.
