Tips for enrolling in College of Liberal Arts & Sciences online classes in Fall 2025:
- Always try to enroll in the course first. Not all classes have reserved spots. A list of all online fall classes with reserved seats can be found HERE.
- If you are unable to enroll in a course, do the following:
- Search for an alternate course that may fit your needs. Be bold and explore a new area of study!
- Meet with your regular advisor to determine an alternate course.
- Add yourself to the waitlist in Enroll and Pay. Instructions here.
- Edwards sections that require department consent are only available for students officially designated as Edwards campus students.
- If you are on the waitlist and you get added to the class, you will receive a notification from the Registrar's office alerting you to this enrollment. Be sure to check your KU Email!
- Note for Winter Intersession: Most Winter Intersession courses have 5 seats reserved for students facing graduation hardships. If you must enroll in a Winter Intersession course in order to be eligible to graduate in Spring 2026, please contact thecollegeonline@ku.edu.
Reserved seats in online classes will be released on July 25, 2025. At this time, waitlisted students will be automatically enrolled. Any remaining seats will be available for open enrollment.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions regarding the enrollment process for online courses.
The College reserves space in online classes that are part of our fully online degree programs. We reserve the space to accommodate the enrollment timeline for our online program students.
Students who have added themselves to a waitlist will be informed by the Registrar's office if/when they are moved into the corresponding class on or around July 25, 2025. The College strongly encourages students to consider alternative classes if they are unable to enroll.
No. Waitlisted students will only be moved into a class if there is space available once the reserved seats for fully online students are released.
If a class is reserved and the waitlist is full, please find an alternative course to take. If being unable to enroll in a specific online class would cause a graduation hardship, please reach out to your advisor for next steps.
There are a few reasons this could happen. If there are multiple sections of the same class in any given semester, reserve caps may be added to one and not the other. Please double check the class number to make sure it corresponds with the reserve cap list. You could also have an enrollment hold preventing you from enrolling. Enrollment holds can be reviewed via Enroll & Pay. Finally, you may be unable to enroll in a course because doing so would exceed the maximum allowable hours a student can take per semester (20).
Your best option is to make an appointment to speak with your advisor. They will be able to determine whether there are changes you can make to your schedule to accommodate a different course.
You should consider enrolling in other classes that fulfill the same requirement. If there are none, your advisor should be able to assist with inquiries regarding graduation hardships.
Instructors will route students back to this process. If you are being recommended an online course by an instructor, please ask them to contact the College on your behalf to discuss options.
The class may be subject to other holds (departmental, etc.). If you are unable to enroll in an online class that appears to have open seats after the release date has passed, please reach out to thecollegeonline@ku.edu with the classes Session ID #.
This is a great question that is best answered by consulting your academic advisor, who can verify whether or not it is possible to complete your degree fully online. Not all majors are available online, but depending on your unique situation we're happy to work with you to see what is possible!
